Hitching Posts
Before the advent of the automobile, the primary means of travel around Monrovia was by horse or horse and buggy. When it came time to dismount, it was necessary to tie the horse(s) to a stationary object. Thus we have the hitching post.
While the horses are long gone from the streets of Monrovia, we still have a few hitching posts remaining in the town. All are made of granite and some have metals rings for attaching the reins. They provide a nostalgic remembrance of days gone by.
