26th Annual Monrovia Mother's Day Tour
A Stroll Through Time - 1887 - 1939
The Monrovia Historic Preservation Group’s 26th annual Mother’s Day Tour was held on
Sunday, May 11, 2008 from
10:00 am to
2:00 pm. The weather cooperated and provided the over 400 paid tour goers with a pleasant morning in which to view the five homes.
The tour committee decided to scale back the tour this year and also to have all the homes on the tour within easy walking distance of each other. Lines were never long (except at the 1887 Victorian, where a shortage of booties slowed admission), and the 50-60 docents stationed throughout the homes supplied the visitors with information not included in the tour brochure.
The Mother’s Day Tour is the primary fundraiser for MOHPG. Monies raised by the tour have allowed the organization to sponsor a number of projects over the years: a matching grant program for assisting homeowners in restoration projects on their pre-1930s homes in Monrovia, yearly financial donations to both the Monrovia Historical Museum and the Anderson House Museum, sponsorship of the summer concert series in Library Park (this year moved to Recreation Park due to construction of the new library), the purchase of resource books for the library (over 200 to date), restoration of the Boxx Jewelers clock on Myrtle in downtown Monrovia, plus the normal operating expenses of the organization.
MOHPG wishes to thank all those who attended and who continue to support our restoration efforts. Even if the tour was not a fundraiser, it would be a success in the eyes of MOHPG. What better way to showcase the town’s heritage than by opening several of its beautiful and well-maintained homes to the public?
