2011 Home Tour Preview

Plans are nearing completion as the Monrovia Historic Preservation Group prepares for its upcoming vintage home tour.  Making this tour extra special is the fact that it will be the 125th anniversary of the founding of the town of Monrovia and MOHPG’s 29th home tour.  The tour will take place on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

To celebrate this special year, all of the homes on the 2011 tour will be Victorian gems built before 1893.  When the town was incorporated in 1887, there were only 164 residences and a population of 2,000 people.  While not all of those homes remain today, there are still some magnificent examples of Victorian buildings that have survived, and MOHPG is pleased to showcase five of them.

In addition to these five houses, the Leven Oaks Hotel, which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary, and the Monrovia Historical Museum, with its revamped exhibits, will be open for viewing. Vendors will be located at the Burr House, with a window glazing demo set for 1:00 p.m. A sewing demonstration will be held at the Museum, and visitors will be given a chance to make an apron on a vintage sewing machine. A light lunch will be available for purchase at the Leven Oaks Hotel. Trolleys transporting visitors from house to house will provide an alternative to driving.
