2010 Home Tour Preview

The Monrovia Historic Preservation Group will hold its 28th annual home tour on Sunday, May 9, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  The featured homes on this year’s tour are located on Highland Place, between Foothill Blvd and Hillcrest Blvd in Monrovia, California.  Highland Place is one of the widest residential streets in Monrovia, and with many large trees lining the street and containing a variety of housing styles,  it is a perfect setting for the home tour. There are four homes open for viewing on Highland Place, each one a different style of architecture.  There will be a Spanish style, Craftsman, Mediterranean, and English Tudor open. In addition, on nearby Melrose Avenue is Mills View, one of Monrovia’s stately Victorian homes (see below) which is always a popular home for viewing (it was last on tour in 1997).

Mills View is one of only a handful of large Victorian houses in Monrovia; it was built in 1887.

As usual the Monrovia Historic Museum will also be on tour; the exhibits have been updated and are constantly changing with new additions being planned. As a bonus, a home with a garden of native plants will be open for those whose interests lie in reducing water usage;  the owners will be available to share their insights on caring for a water-wise garden.  Alfresco dining will be available and antique “horseless carriages” will line the street to add to the festive occasion.  Each home on the tour will have docents ready to share information about the history of the house.

Don’t miss this yearly event!  See for yourself why Monrovia is referred to as the “Gem of the Foothills”!
